I found "Rockaby Lullaby" music on amazon.com and I ordered U2, Metallica, Cold Play & Led Zepplen. I have a wish list of Nirvana, Bob Marley, The Beatles & a few others. My wife and I think that they are very well done ... and our son does calm down and fall asleep when they are played.

you can also go to: http://www.babyrockrecords.com

sure beats "twinkle twinkle..." all the time!

I hope this makes it easier on you and the little one!

peace!

Kid's Day - Night

http://tribes.tribe.net/kidsday

A while back Melissa & I made some half-assed attempts to get some meeting of the parents at some fun place for the kids to chum around, but we're all too f&^*^*&% busy, so I just converted "Tribe Heckler Tribe" to the closely related "Kid's Day - Night" tribe so maybe we'll start posting all the places that have kid's days or nights or specials for kids or reading times or musicians for kids or whatever - then we don't have to plan something but maybe will find a bunch of places that are fun for our kids (& us) and maybe even easy on the wallets - then you tell two friends, who tell two friends, and so on, and so on, and so on (was that a Breck commercial? is that stuff still on the market? if not, hope this works better than that).

For ease, I'm going to cut and paste this same thing on the other parent's tribes I'm on so if you already read it, then there's nothing new here...just being lazy (efficient?)

I just found this great solution for crying babies, a white noise MP3 for under $5!!

Hey fellow desperate parents,

I just found this awesome website that sells a download of "white noise" to help your baby stop crying and get back to sleep. www.thewhitenoisealbum.com I read (like most of you have I'm sure) "The Happiest Baby on the Block" and there's all this stuff about using white noise to get your colicky baby to stop crying, but when I went to the book's website the CD is like $15!!! I just couldn't reason myself into paying that much for a CD of "white noise"... I mean come on people, it's white noise. Then I found this awesome site that has a really affordable solution. It's an album called "The WHITE NOISE ALBUM" and if you're a Beatles fan you'll get a kick out of it because it looks just like "The White Album"... get it? anyhow, for $4.99 you can download a full hour of white noise, then either burn it to a CD or play it on your iPod. The website says you can get it at Barnes and Noble too, so if you're by the Grove, see if they have it!

Anyhow, this thing is a lifesaver! Stops Donovan's crying and he's back to sleep in a few minutes, and it keeps him from waking up from random noises in my apartment. Plus I started using it while I sleep too! It covers up the sounds of my neighbor's TV like a dream, and now we both can get to sleep.

Just go to www.thewhitenoisealbum.com

My son's at the age right now where things he does are still quite funny and silly. Have your kids ever done something that just makes you laugh in hysterics?

During the olympics, my son's mother taught him how to do a "Final Dismount"... in which, he raises his hands over his head just like the gymnasts would do after finishing a routine. She also taught him "Touchdown" (basically the same thing, for a toddler).

I thought i had to get in the game on this one. I taught him "Safe" and "Outta here", just like in baseball. He'll swipe his hands laterally in front of him, just like the umpire for "Safe", and he'll wildly shake his right fist (doesn't quite get the thumb yet) for "Outta here". That paired with the new gapped teeth coming in, it's just too damn cute.

DeTocqueville (1831) *Democracy in America*
Long before an American girl arrives at the marriageable age, her emancipation from maternal control begins: she has scarcely ceased to be a child when she already thinks for herself, speaks with freedom, and acts on her own impulse. The great scene of the world is constantly open to her view, far from seeking to conceal it from her, it is every day disclosed more completely and she is taught to survey it with a firm and calm gaze. Thus the vices and dangers of society are early revealed to her; as she sees them clearly, she views them without illusion and braves them without fear, for she is full of reliance on her own strength, and her confidence seems to be shared by all around her.

Visitation adjustment

Here is my situation. I am a single dad of a 7 and 5.5 yrs. old girls. I had had two overnights every other week-end and since last year my ex have been very genourous to me ( so she says it) to have them ONLY for summer Tuesdays nights. The little one has had a very special bond with me since she was born and now her attachment to me is very obvious. Everyone can see that both love me but the little one is quite special. Sometime ago, my little one asked her mom to stay in papa's house during the week. She cried and hug me because she wanted to return to papa's house. Then, I supported her and she helped to feel assured of the current situation. Yesterday, when her mom came to pick her up, out of the blues, she stayed in her room and didn't want to leave and started crying. It took 10' to take her to the car, talking to her, kissing her, hugging her and telling her that I was going to see her at summer camp. She complied but was very sad because she wanted to stay in my house. Very heartbreaking but also rewarding to see genuine love from my girl. Any advise or sugestion as to help her to cope?
As for my ex, she knows perfeclty well that I am going to use this kind of situation to ask her to have my kids at least one more overnight during the week. Since she is adamant to the idea of spending more time with me, I am getting ready now to approach her in a gentle manner to propose some changes in the visitation for my girls. She argues that the situation is fine the way it is as our kids need consistency and the same routine with her.
Your input and help will be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Mig

New companion in your family

Hey gang,

Wanted to hear some opinions about a new companion in your family. Since my last break up with my las girl friend, my two little girls got accustomed to her, even though we started to be affectioned in front of the kids later in our dating, just before the break up and blending our families. Since then, they always asked me what happened to her and her kids. Sad but a real situation. Now after a year without a girlfriend, my kids still enjoy time together but I have noticed that they like the notion of group but most important family. Today, my new girlfriend asked me to live together with our kids (joint custody 25%). I would like to hear your comments about this new situation for my kids where papa's house will have a new woman, papa's friend and how to avoid emotional complications for my kids.
Your input will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Mig

Fatherhood

When I pictured being a father there were a few things I never imagined. I posted this on my website and I thought I'd share it here too.

Zephyr: Daddy peeing! Help Daddy pee?
Me: No, I don't need help but thanks.
Zephyr: Daddy's penis! Touch Daddy's penis?
Me: *sigh* No. You can't touch my penis.
Zephyr: Penis! Penis! Penis! Daddy go pee.
Me: Yes, I am going pee.
Zephyr: Watch Daddy pee? (At this point he tries to force his way through my legs to stand between me and the toilet)
Me: Stop that! I'm almost done and you can flush the toilet.
Zephyr: Yeah! Penis! Penis! Flush the toidalet!

Dads in the Media

Hi everyone...

We're expecting our spawn to arrive this coming April and I've got about 10 godzillion questions for you all. Right now, I'm wondering what everyone thinks about the way fathers are portrayed in the media. It seems like every commercial and sit-com depicts mothers as smart, hard-working, holding down a full-time career AND taking care of the family, while depicting fathers as doltish subservient simpletons taking insults and punishment from their wives and children.

This is not to say that it's wrong to portray women in a positive light, but must it be done at the expense of men? I really don't want my kid being programmed with this sort of nonsense. We plan to *severely* limit our child's exposure to TV, but I'm not going to be able to monitor them every second, especially as they get older.

So what say you? How have you dealt with this issue with your own children?
